I don't believe the cost of any of this should be placed on the rate payer. If the crossing needs to go in, then the developer needs to install the higher tech option at their expense. The developer wanted to build a housing development near a major route for trucks and traffic, it is their issue. Not a ratepayer expense. This is what happens when you plan housing in areas that should not have housing.

If access to the bus stop is the issue, the the bus stop gets moved into the development at the developers expense. It is very simple. Keep pedestrians off the busy road and install an underpass like in Tamahere (at the developers expense), this is another valid option.
People and traffic don't mix on a road like this, regardless of the speed limit. |
