I don’t think reducing the speed limit to 60km/h on such a short stretch is necessary. It’s not really long enough to make a meaningful difference to safety. With a signalised pedestrian crossing, there’s already a safe and controlled way for people to cross, so lowering the speed limit on top of that feels unnecessary. It also creates an inconsistent speed environment, which can be frustrating for drivers and may lead to poor compliance anyway. Te Rapa Road is a key route, and keeping traffic flowing efficiently is important.

No, I don’t think a speed limit reduction is needed in the first place. The signalised pedestrian crossing should be enough to manage safety for pedestrians. If anything, the focus should be on making sure the crossing is clearly visible and well-signposted, rather than adding further changes like lowering the speed limit.
