| Do you support Council’s proposal to make minor amendments to the Trading in Public Places Bylaw? |
I support option 1: continue the bylaw with proposed amendments

| Please tell us the reasons for your response. |
I am strongly supportive of any measures that make it easier to use public spaces for trading and business activity. Encouraging more commercial use of footpaths, parks, and other public areas is a positive step toward stimulating economic activity in the city. When barriers are reduced, it becomes easier for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and market operators to participate, which increases the supply of goods and services available to the public. In turn, this can lead to greater choice for consumers, more competitive pricing, and a more vibrant local economy.
I believe we should take a bold and forward-looking approach to how public spaces are used. Well-managed street trading, markets, and small-scale commercial activity can add life to the city, attract more people into public areas, and create opportunities for local enterprise that might not otherwise exist. Developing a stronger culture of street markets and public-space trading could provide an important pathway for small operators to bring goods to market and grow their businesses. For these reasons, I support the proposed changes, and I welcome any further steps that continue to reduce unnecessary barriers while still maintaining safety, accessibility, and fairness for all users of public space. |
