I partially support option 1

I do not support the signage on footpaths. In retail areas signs are removing public pedestrian space making it more stressful for pedestrians. Flag type signs are dangerous when windy. Especially a problem if there is a bus stop where they block the view of the oncoming bus and flap about madly in the wind. I would ask why retailers think these are effective? The answer I suspect is they are hailing drivers. This overloads the pedestrian space which actually undermines foot traffic volumes that would benefit them. It seems to me that context is everything here if their customers have designated carparks outside these flags are not a problem. In places like hamilton east they are a problem.
