Do you support Council’s proposal to make minor amendments to the Trading in Public Places Bylaw?
I support option 1: continue the bylaw with proposed amendments
Please tell us the reasons for your response.
I support these changes because I believe they could help make the city feel more vibrant, creative, and alive. If public spaces are managed in a way that allows for more cultural and community activity, that can create more opportunities for live music, small events, markets, street performance, and other creative uses of the city.
I also think it is a good thing that activities can be allowed with reasonable conditions, rather than simply being restricted by default.
In my view, these changes could benefit the city by encouraging local culture, supporting small-scale creative activity, and making public places more enjoyable for residents and visitors

As an adult who wants to see more cultural life in Hamilton, I think this kind of approach is positive because it can help activate public spaces instead of leaving them underused. A city with more visible arts and cultural activity feels more welcoming, more interesting, and more connected.
I have travelled to 35 countries, and from personal experience I can say that buskers and street artists genuinely help make a place unforgettable. There are cities I remember specifically because of the interactions I had with local musicians and performers in public spaces. Those artistic moments give a city character, warmth, and identity in a way that many formal attractions cannot.
For that reason, I think it is very positive to have a clear framework that allows this kind of activity to happen in public places. I support having regulation and clear rules in place, because that gives performers a better understanding of what is allowed and helps create a positive experience for everyone. Good rules can make things more enjoyable both for performers and for pedestrians, while still keeping public spaces safe, respectful, and well managed.
I am also in favour of allowing the use of amplifiers during specific hours. Some types of instruments, performances, and artistic expression simply cannot be properly appreciated without amplification. Allowing amplification within clear time limits seems like a balanced and practical approach, as it supports artistic quality while still respecting nearby residents, businesses, and other users of public space.
Overall, I believe these changes could help bring more colour, creativity, and life to the city, while also making expectations clearer for everyone involved.
