Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.
I support the need for a coordinated, long-term approach to water infrastructure and agree that investment is necessary to ensure safe and reliable services. However, I have concerns about increasing Hamilton residents’ water charges to align with Waikato District. While price harmonisation may be simpler administratively, it risks being unfair. Hamilton ratepayers should not be required to absorb costs that may reflect different infrastructure histories or investment levels. I support the principle that growth should pay for growth and encourage this to remain a priority to reduce the burden on existing residents. Overall, I support the strategy’s direction but urge Iawai to ensure any pricing changes are fair, transparent, and phased carefully. Thank you for considering my submission. |
