1. Do you have any feedback on the IAWAI Water Services Strategy?
I wonder how IAWAI will own the water and wastewater assets when over the years they have been paid for by the rate payers. Is this not dispossessing the rate payers of their assets? I am concerned about the possibility of duplication of roles between the council and IAWAI which will contribute to vastly increased costs. If this service is shifted to IAWAI, then surely there should be saving related to not having to meet this function in council. This is not mentioned. If we are having to pay for our water, will we be able to specify that we would like it to be free of fluoride? There is a division of opinion about the necessity for having this in our water supply and recent legal action in the US has demonstrated it's toxicity when it is ingested as opposed to being put onto the teeth topically. Under the current system people who want to remove this have to pay more to undertake this. How will this new entity be accountable to the voters? If water meters are adopted, then a strategy needs to be put in place for those with EMR syndrome to opt out of a smart meter.
