1. Do you have any feedback on the IAWAI Water Services Strategy?
Hamilton Residents had been paying just on rates. A few years ago, they created Environment Waikato and added anothe rates for us. The present Minister, Simon Watts, had decided to amalgamate it into the local councils. Ministers' instruction is to cap rates to 4 %, similar to Australia.
Hamilton City Council separated the Capital value and land value from the water, wastewater, and stormwater rates. Hamilton City Council is proposing to increase the capital value and land value rates by 6.9 %. Waikato Regional Council is increasing the rates by 1.4 %.
If IAWAI is attempting to increase the water, wastewater, and stormwater rates by over 28 %, there is something radically wrong with the administration of IAWAI.
With the high cost of living, ratepayers and residents cannot accept such a high water rate increase. If Minister Simon Watts and the Prime Minister do not step in to bring this foolish rate increase it will be a disaster for the Government at the November General elections. I feel that the wrong people are in the wrong position in IAWAI. Water rate increases should be capped at 4%. This is my request.
2a. Do you support a growth pays for growth approach for new residential and commercial developments, including the use of growth charges to help fund growth-related infrastructure and services?
No
Please provide comment.
When the cost of living is high, unemployment is high rates should be used for essential services to the residents. For growth, the Government, developers, and sponsors should pay for it. Not the hard-working residents and those who are on a fixed income. If the Minister turns a blind eye to IAWAI's suggestions of increasing rates by over 28%, this will be the last term for the present Government. What's the difference between IAWAI and 3 Waters? We would have been better off with 3 waters.
2b. In the current residential growth charges proposal secondary minor dwellings (i.e. granny flats) may be treated as ½ HUE. Do you support treating secondary minor dwellings as ½ HUE? If you have an alternative proposal, please explain.
No
