With just five days left for Hamiltonians to vote in the 2025 local election and Maaori Ward Poll, only 20,100 votes have been received – which is 17.4% of Hamilton’s 115,433 enrolled voters.

This year’s voting period is longer than in 2022, so daily returns can’t be directly compared. However, with five days to go in the 2022 election, only 12.4% of eligible voters had returned their voting documents.

This year’s election will decide the city’s next Mayor and Councillors. It also includes a binding poll to decide whether the Kirikiriroa Maaori Ward continues from 2028.

Council Chief Executive Lance Vervoort said Council is encouraging everyone in Hamilton Kirikiriroa to have their say by voting.

“Let’s do better than we did in 2022,” he said.

“Whether you’re choosing your local leaders or voting in the Maaori Ward Poll, it’s your chance to help shape our city’s future.”

Voting papers can be returned by post or dropped into the orange voting boxes across the city.
