Kerbside rubbish and recycling collections in Hamilton Kirikiriroa will go ahead as normal on King’s Birthday (Monday 1 June).

Residents should put their bins out on their normal collection day by 7am.

Hamilton City Council’s Director of Resource Recovery, Sarah Wilson, says using the food scraps bin, yellow recycling bin, and glass crate is an easy way for households to reduce waste sent to landfill and free up space in the red rubbish bin.

It’s also important the right items are put in the right bins – only place the following items in your recycling bin:

  • plastics 1, 2, and 5

  • cardboard and paper

  • tins and cans.

Recycling should be rinsed clean, free of food, and have lids removed. Residents can recycle lids at a participating supermarket or the Lincoln Street Resource Recovery Centre, or put them in the red rubbish bin.

“If you're unsure which bin an item belongs in, the bin sorter tool on our website will help you find the right one,” said Wilson.
