Streets and footpaths around Seddon Park, Hamilton’s international cricket ground, will temporarily be under traffic control for brief periods this week.

The traffic control and street and footpath closures – running from Wednesday through to Saturday – are to allow for the movement and set-up of a large crane which will lift the venue’s new floodlight towers into place.

The closures are:

  • Wednesday – Bryce St under stop/go control to position the crane on Circus Park, at the southern end of Seddon Park.
  • Thursday – Seddon Rd and its footpaths closed from Somerset St to Bryce St. For safety reasons, residents and businesses may face delays during this part of the operation. Somerset St from Devon Rd to Seddon Rd, and Seddon Rd from Somerset St to the Norton Rd roundabout, but business owners/staff and residents in this area will be granted access to their sites. Although the closure is booked from 4am to 9pm, it is expected to be lifted early afternoon.
  • Friday – Norton Rd, near Founders Theatre, will be briefly under stop/go control while the crane is positioned in Casey’s Garden, at the northern end of Seddon Park.
  • Saturday – Brief footpath and road closures on Tristram St, near the turf team’s building exit, to allow the crane to be positioned inside Seddon Park, and later in the afternoon, for it to leave the site.
