Night-time visitors to Hamilton Lake Domain are urged to exercise caution due to a series of defective street lights within the popular city park.

Hamilton City Council’s Parks and Recreation Unit was recently alerted to malfunctions with the streetlights along Lake Rotoroa Dr – the road which runs from the Ruakiwi Rd entrance of the park, and follows the lake around to Lake Domain Dr on the northern side of the domain.

The cause of the fault is believed to be aging cable connecting the network of lights. Staff are working with contractors to determine a repair but this may take some time and the lights will not be operating for the next few weeks.

Although vehicle access gates at the ends of the road through the domain are locked at dusk, the park is popular with runners and dog walkers who use it at night for recreation and exercise.

Visitors to the park at night are urged to walk or run with a friend, be aware of trip or slip hazards, carry a torch and let someone know where they are going and when they will be back.
