What is Council?
Hamilton City Council is comprised of the Mayor and 14 councillors who represent the citizens of Hamilton.

Key responsibilities
- Sets rates (the money we collect to run the city)
- Makes bylaws (local rules)
- Borrows money for big projects
- Approves major plans and strategies
- Appoints the chief executive
- Oversees city boundaries and committee appointments
- Develops and approves the annual and long-term plans
- Monitors key plans and reports, like the long-term plan and annual report
